The Mercury Lounge :: New York City

The final night of Art Brut's precedent setting consecutive sold-out run saw the band in a properly festive mood. It was one last show before moving on to another city, and they pulled out all the stops to make it the most complete show of the run. With opening acts Keith Top of the Pops and Jeffrey Lewis delivering amazingly entertaining shows, it was time once again for Art Brut to take the stage and deliver the mayhem they are well known for to their loyal fans.

Early highlight of this night's song selection was "My Little Brother" from their debut album. With the significant refrain going "my little brother just discovered rock and roll" it was a happy gaggle of fans up front, thrashing along with each power chord and rock solid drum beat, masterfully executed by drummer Mikey Breyer.

Another inspired monologue centered the newly minted "DC Comics Makes Me Want To Rock Out". This time Eddie came off the stage and ventured deep into the crowd. It was a ridiculous and amazing scene. This singer buried deep in a rabid and adoring throng, with everyone pogoing up and down in time along with the rising cacophony back on stage.

Additionally, they played the actual "DC Comics and Chocolate Milkshakes." Who can't relate to lyrics that go "I never got over that amazing taste," and "some things will always be great!" Indeed.

Finally, the band went back to their very beginnings and played their first ever single release, 2004's "Formed A Band." It was all fist pumping and vertical movement from the sweat drenched audience.

So ended a never before in the history of The Mercury Lounge 5 consecutive nights of sold out shows. The band promises to return to New York again, sometime in the autumn of this year. No one will be surprised if the crowds are even bigger then.
