Royel Otis have released their much anticipated brand new single “moody” (out now on OURNESS/Capitol Records). A lilting cut with an infectious hook and effortless late 90’s slacker groove, “moody” is poised to soundtrack the upcoming warm summer nights here in the States as easily as the winter waves; if you’re from the pair’s home city of Sydney, Australia.
Co-written by Royel Otis (Royel Maddell and Otis Pavlovic) and GRAMMY winning songwriter Amy Allen, the song was produced by Blake Slatkin (Gracie Abrams, Omar Apollo, Charli XCX), and ushers in a new era for the critically acclaimed duo. Speaking to the track, Royel Otis had this to share: “It’s a song about a girl.”
To celebrate the single release, the band played two sold out shows at The Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA earlier this week. Tickets to the show sold out within minutes upon on-sale, crashing the ticketing site back in early April. Fans lucky enough to get tickets to the show were treated to a special live set from Royel Otis who also previewed music from their upcoming sophomore album.
Alongside the new single release, Royel Otis also celebrated the announcement of their brand new “meet me in the car tour” which will see the guys play select cities across North America, including music festivals such as Governor’s Ball (New York), Lollapalooza (Chicago) and Outside Lands (San Francisco, CA) and more.
