Today, St. Paul & The Broken Bones, who NPR Music has hailed as “one of the nation’s best live bands,” share their new song “Mess I Made.” The song previews new music from the band and Paul Janeway shares, “I always thought of this song as the big brother song to ‘Change a Life.’ They were written within the same time period. The beautiful part of listening to songs you have written is the song can transport you to a very specific time in your life. When I hear this, I think of being in London dealing with loneliness and feeling ambition is a cruel companion. I love how the verse of ‘Mess I Made’ starts upbeat with kind of a Motown dance vibe to it. Then the chorus hits to half time and the desperation flows out. The line about buying my own valentines is probably one of my favorite lines from this work.” St. Paul & The Broken Bones wrote the song with Henrik Michelson and Francis “Eg” White, who also produced the song.
