“I feel like if you’re saying yes and you’re exploring, you’re always moving. That’s the part of life that I’m in right now. I just don’t wanna stop.” — Alex Lahey

Today, Alex Lahey releases her new albumThe Answer Is Always Yes, on Liberation, and presents a new video for album standout, “On The Way Down.” Where Lahey’s previous albums take their focus through the lens of relationships, The Answer Is Always Yes sees Lahey analyze her otherness through different lenses, from its isolating effect to the surrealism and humor it instills. As evident through “On The Way Down,” Lahey’s fun-loving rock has found new vessels on The Answer Is Always Yes. “On The Way Down” completes a trajectory of exhilarating singles, and is presented alongside a video directed by Jon Danovic. “Jon and I ran ourselves ragged around Manchester for an entire day finding all the stairs and descending slopes we could,” says Lahey. “My ass and hamstrings still hurt.” An undeniable jam, “On The Way Down” reiterates the infectious, charismatic songwriting on which Lahey has built her career.

With The Answer Is Always Yes, Lahey examines how she finds comfort in the discomfort, whether it’s reveling in absurdity or turning towards exploration. Both as a proud fringe dweller and an artist, Lahey has witnessed the benefits of taking risks and experimenting, and The Answer Is Always Yes — whose title has become a mantra for her — is living proof.

Just as Lahey learned to reimagine the world around her, the music of The Answer Is Always Yes is also the product of reimagination. For the first time in her career, Lahey took a risk by inviting other writers and producers into the early stages of her creative process. The result is not only Lahey’s most collaborative album yet, but also the most dynamic and surprising.

Tonight in Santa Ana, Lahey will kick off a North American tour in support of The Answer Is Always Yes. She’ll play cities all across the US and Canada, including Los AngelesSan FranciscoDenverChicagoTorontoBostonNew YorkAustin, and more. A full list of tour dates is below.
