Words & Photos by Rod Snyder

ZZ Top pulled into town on their Tonnage Tour for a gig at Caesar’s Circus Maximus venue in Atlantic City on March 3rd. They covered a nice cross-section of their catalog & even included a couple blues covers by Jimi Hendrix & Robert Petway.

After the covers, they got back to business with some old classics like “Cheap Sunglasses”, “Sharp Dressed Man”, and the classic “Legs”, complete with their white, fuzzy guitars. They came back out for two encore breaks, finally closing the set with a raucous cover of Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock”.

As the venue was small, there were plenty of attendees taking selfies of them and the band. On several occasions, Billy Gibbons was happy to pose for some shots, and even managed to photo bomb a couple of people who had no idea he was right behind them, posing for the camera. One must ask, what are these people looking at when they take the selfie?

Another time, a fan in the front row had a collectible that caught the attention of Billy. He took it, signed it, and also had the rest of the band sign it. You don’t see too many bands doing that these days – it was nice to see these guys are still in touch with their fans.

The Tonnage Tour travels around the country, then heads to Europe where they finish up on July 30. If you get a chance, get out and see what the guys are up to – you’ll see that they still have plenty of gas left in the tank.
