On the evening of September 29 at Madison Square Garden, the Tedeschi Trucks Band graced the stage for a ‘Garden Party’, an unforgettable two-and-a-half-hour performance featuring some very special guests. Opening act Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real set the tone for the night, playing classics from their catalog including ‘Find Yourself” and ‘Fool Me Once’.

Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, and their band took the stage at 9:00, and from the first note, the crowd knew they were in for a treat! Norah Jones was the first guest to appear for a duet with Susan Tedeschi, covering John Hiatt’s ‘Have a Little Faith in Me’ followed by the Tom Petty song, ‘You Wreck Me’.

Another standout moment of the show was when the band brought out Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio, covering The Who’s ‘The Seeker’. Next, they played ‘Bell Bottom Blues’ from Derek and the Dominos, transporting the audience back to the LOCKN’ 2019, when TTB and Trey covered the Derek and the Dominos album, Layla, in its entirety. Watching Derek Trucks and Trey Anastasio have a conversation with their guitars is something you want more of, and never want the song to end.

The show did come to an end with the entire band – plus Jones, Anastasio, and Nelson – joining to together for a spirited encore: the Sly and the Family Stone classic, ‘I Want to Take You Higher’.

The Tedeschi Trucks Band returns to New York City next year, with 3 shows at the Beacon Theatre from February 29-March 2, 2024.
